What a handsome crew! We got'r done!

Becky finds a bonanza

Mary Jo modeling the latest styles for the well-dressed picker

Elizabeth seems happiest with a vine in her face and a cluster in hand.

hmmm is that a cold ear or a grape cluster?

Chris is one happy picker - must be the last row.

John pauses a moment to ponder the short but happy life of a grape.
Is he composing the definitive ode to a bunch of grapes
or just mesmerized by the
passion of picking?

In a color coordinated outfit, our picker makes a stylish splash in dark
glasses. Unfortunately she had to feel her way around the vineyard looking for
clusters to pick.
Just a little more to the left...

It's almost too easy when the clusters all line up like for you.
Thanks to the
freeze last week for removing the leaves.

Concentrate now - snip, pick, snip, pick, snip, pick, snip, pick, pick, snip,
snip, pick - oops. Darn all that chatting in the next row.

Look, I can keep on picking with no hands.

In a vineyard - no one can hear you scream.
Just testing.....

The boss likes to see a busy team - of course there is always one maverick with
a camera - today there were two of us.

After receiving so many compliments on her outfit,
Mary Jo is determined to
become the cover girl on the next edition of grape-picker gazette.
(Notice the baskets are still empty)

Everyone wants to pick the last cluster.
Tom has been holding this one for 10 minutes so he could claim the honor.

Brian dumps the grapes to start the destemming process -
we all watch carefully to make sure he doesn't spill any.

Some team members do their best work while watching

So here's the plan... oooohhh nice boots Mary Jo.
Joel knows style when he sees it!

Alright! Who made that crack about my disco boots?
Taylor, was that you?

Suddenly, Joel remembers the problems with the must hose in 2003
(read more...)
Let's see who is on the back end of the must hose today.
Oh Oh, guess where Mikey is again today.

Those mavens of mystery, Donna and Elizabeth,
work on my favorite part of the
day - lunch.

Lunch, new friends and a little wine - what more could you ask for?

A new friend to hear all the old stories.
Mary Jo is describing how she clobbered a particularly stubborn grape
cluster

Joel punches down the fermenting grapes.
The exhausted team is playing golf.

This batch of grapes arrived late so Mary Jo does a little hand work to crush
and destem a sample so she can check the sugar and acid.

Lets all check the sugar content. How sweet!

The last task of the day, adding the yeast to start fermentation.
Wine, here we come!

Our fearless leader, Joel, strikes a poses for truth, justice and the winemaker
way of life.
I'll bet he's still wondering if he can afford a pair of boots like Mary Jo's.
